At the beginning of the year, I told my husband that I planned to cut back on all the sugar we were consuming. It had gotten bad you guys.
So for a week or so, we stopped eating cookies for breakfast. There was no more Christmas candy in the house. And I didn’t make any desserts. Except for that one night when I made myself a ramekin of white chocolate chips and pecans (so good). But that was more like trail mix so it didn’t count.
What I failed to consider in my sugar-abandoning haste, though, was that January is birthday month. We have three birthdays in our family this month, which means even more parties, family dinners, and birthday breakfasts.
Then there are all the snow days. It’s snowing outside right now. And, obviously, snow days are no days for cutting back on sugar.
Snow days are days for hot chocolate. Donuts. Popcorn. And fresh-out-of-the-oven-cookies.
Make some cookies today friends. Get out in the snow with your kids even if it’s the last thing you want to do (holding hand up here). Cozy up under a blanket on the couch and read a good book or a favorite movie. We’ve been reading The Long Winter and watching Narnia at our house.
And if things get really bad, grab a few fresh cookies and hide out a while. Read this for snow day inspiration and this for some coping humor to get you through when the day seems like it will never end.
This was taken after our first dusting this week. Today the snow is piling up even more.
