Build Your Own Snack Bar
Here’s another quick idea for going on the road with kids.
Line up jars or packages of snack food and let your kids fill up a bowl with the various items.
A bowl was much easier for my kids to fill up than trying to get the pieces into the bags without spilling half. When they finish filling up the bowl, transfer their snack to a jar or bag for on-the-road snacking.
Suggestions for a snack bar:
- various nuts
- raisins and other dried fruits
- dried coconut flakes
- sunflower seeds
- pumpkin seeds
- mini-marshmallows
- Goldfish
- animal crackers (homemade version)
- dark chocolate
My boys were excited to make their snack bags and even more excited to eat them. And the way our timing ended up on Saturday, their bags plus a piece of fruit became a simple travel lunch.
These snack bags were made up of almonds, peanuts, raisins, banana chips, dried pineapples, marshmallows, goldfish, dark chocolate covered bananas and coconut, walnuts, sunflower seeds.
Don’t forget to put your kids’ names on their bags too!

I’ll definitely be doing this once Luke is old enough to not eat it all right then and there and when he can keep from dumping it all out :/

Great idea! We’ll be planning a road trip, and my kids will like getting involved with the preparations, especially when it directly benefits them! 🙂
