When my husband and I first got married, I hated the smell of tuna. As soon as he popped open the lid on a can of tuna, I high-tailed it out of the room because the smell was so unpleasant. Hashtag, marital bliss. I guess the honeymoon was over.
He kept making tuna salad for quick lunches and snacks, but I resisted for a long time. Eventually, I started making it for him and the kids (they would eat it) because it was such an easy picnic food.
It’s so funny how food memories imprint on the mind because I can clearly remember the first time I tried this dish that I had been making for years at that point. I was sitting at a picnic table at a park while my kids played on the playground. The jar of tuna salad was in front of me and I decided it was about time I grew up and just tasted it!
After the FIRST BITE, I realized what I had been missing. It was so good!
Our Favorite Easy Tuna Salad
As you can see from the pictures, we pack our tuna salad full of goodness. Basically, every bite is a party.
Crisp apples, sweet raisins, crunch almonds, tangy pickles, tender tuna, and homemade mayonnaise to hold it all together. This really is an awesome tuna salad!
It’s entirely possible that one of the reason the kids (even our babies and toddlers!) love the tuna salad as much as we do is all the additions, but I’m not about to worry about that since the additions are all healthy in themselves.
You could argue that raisins aren’t exactly healthy, but the tradeoff is well worth it to me.
We regularly enjoy this easy tuna salad for lunch, whether we are at home or heading out. It’s a great fallback when you don’t have other lunch options because all the ingredients are ones we keep on hand. Even if I don’t have mayo ready to go in the fridge, I know that I can make it in just a few minutes in my blender.
