There are many ways to sauce a pizza! Try something new tonight!
Tonight is family game night, which just screams pizza for dinner to me.
There are plenty of times we order our favorite take-out pizzas, but it’s hard to beat homemade pizza for taste, budget, and health!
We eat a lot of homemade pizza because it’s so incredibly versatile. Pizza can be made with just about anything out of the fridge and pantry, with relatively little time and effort. Plus, once there is an abundance of garden-fresh vegetables, homemade pizza can be a perfect way to serve up more vegetables in a way that’s pleasing to the whole family!
In honor of pizza night tonight, I put together a list of eight ways to sauce a pizza. Basically, you’re guaranteed to have at least one option on hand right now.
Each sauce is made from scratch, from common pantry ingredients, and in ten minutes or less. Pizza definitely does not have to mean sacrificing health or flavor!
While your sauce is simmering, or you are gathering your ingredients, you can quickly stir together a simple pizza dough. I use the same recipe for a thin crust dough with every pizza I make. The recipe is so quick and easy, you’ll never need to buy a prepared dough again.
If homemade pizza is something your family enjoys often, like we do, I cannot recommend a baking steel highly enough! You get a perfectly crispy crust, and it can never break!

8 Ways to Sauce a Pizza
1. Traditional Marinara Sauce
Marinara sauce is a classic pizza sauce for a reason!
Make a quick and easy homemade marinara:
Blend a can of diced tomatoes, or use a can of tomato sauce. In a small saucepan, heat the blended diced tomatoes over medium heat. Add 1/2 tsp each of garlic powder and onion powder, and 1 tsp each of basil, oregano, and salt. Simmer 10-15 minutes, until the tomato sauce is reduced by 1/3. Taste and add a pinch of salt or sugar to taste.
(Or make a big batch to keep in the freezer)
2. Garlic Infused Olive Oil
Light and healthy, but no less flavorful! Perfect for any garlic lover!

A great way to get superfoods on a pizza! Pesto can be made with a variety of greens, right in your blender or food processor.

5. Olive Oil & Fresh Tomato Slices
It doesn’t get much easier than this!
6. Alfredo Sauce
Another creamy, delicious sauce that can be made quickly on your stovetop!
7. Greek Salad Dressing
Greek (or Italian) salad dressing makes a great pizza sauce when topped with fresh vegetables and chicken!
Make a simple homemade Greek dressing: combine 1/4 C olive oil, 1/4 C red wine vinegar, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsp dried basil, 1/2 tsp pepper, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp onion powder, and 1/2 tsp dijon mustard in a jar and mix well with a fork.
8. Buffalo Sauce
A spicy variation of a ranch pizza sauce. Make it as spicy or mild as you like!
